This will be employers utopia. Staffed by free volunteers. No wages required.
In feudal times at least workers expected free board and lodgings. Even the Navy press gang is now redundant.

Tempting alright for us but in practice not quite Utopia.
I've had a few volunteers and people on work experience from schoolkids to trainee technicians and while some have been great workers and an asset to the business most are a liability. Staff time is wasted showing them what to do and how to do it, often several times over. The days and hours they work are decided not by you but by them or by their course organisers. Paid employees have to sort out their own childcare but those on work experience can only work the hours that their course provides free childcare, usually 9.30 to 4.00, so they miss the busy end of day.

I don't know if it is the same in the UK but here in Ireland we have several 'back to work' schemes that all require participants to have spent at least six months on the dole before they are eligible. I think this counterproductive and they should recruit people as soon as they become unemployed as even a short time not working destroys morale.
