My own GP's surgery (this is nothing to do with work as I live in a town about 8 miles from where I work) has an active League of Friends. I was approached by a representative of this organisation asking for a donation as they were raising money for some equipment for the surgery. I asked whether if this equipment was essential and if so why didn't the surgery buy it for themselves and as they were a small business claim capital allowance on it and write it off against tax over a period of a few years.
Reasonable enough you might think? Well apparently I might be speaking Klingon as far as this chap was concerned. He was an "enthusiast" type of patient, you know the type I'm sure and couldn't or wouldn't understand what I was on about. He thought the doctors were doing "a great job" ( great is debatable) and thought everyone should support them. I had another go, saying that the local butcher did a great job and how about having a whip-round to buy him a new till. That one went straight over his head needless to say.
I do wonder what goes on in the mind of these people
