There are many reasons why pharmacists aren't GPs and I would not have thought altruism was high on the list. I know many, many, many greedy pharmacists so I am not prepared to agree with you.

If they where truly that greedy they would lease the space to a current pharmacy enabling them to make the money without actually having to invest any themselves.
Of course if the surgery is concerned that the area does not have enough enhanced services perhaps they should talk with the LPC about getting them working.
I notice that it's not the nearest pharmacy but a quiet pharmacy that they are considering buying out it is "a local pharmacy that is close but has little footfall." they may have difficulty getting the contract moved against opposition from the other local pharmacies.
Tony, I do tend to agree with you, but I'm sort-of flying a flag. If we were truly altruistic and prepared to train to be a GP (assuming we qualified in any case) we could be really good GPs, but we would be pushed out by the greedy ones, as has been happening with the multiples in Pharmacy
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
What do you want?;..................
You would be amazed how many GPs are salaried and on salaries of about £60k. They have no interest in the politics nor the hassle of running a practice with the attendant rewards. Many GP partners similarly are happy to leave the running of a practice to a manager, some of whom are very highly skilled and remunerated accordingly. They only complain when their income drops (as anyone else would).
When it comes to being paid the LMC is very powerful and of course GPs will have a pivotal role in commissioning new services under the new arrangements. But most will leave this to the vocal few. GPs per se don't live in the real world when it comes to "business" as their contract takes care of so many overheads. That doesn't make them money oriented bastards to whom patients are an inconvenience. Although that is certainly a charge that can be levelled at one or two.
However, pharmacists are human also and amongst us are those that go to work to make a difference to patients but expecting a fair day's remuneration for it and those that exploit the NHS contract ruthlesssly, "interpreting" the staffing requirements and inappropriately performing enhanced services to make money. People can be caring, kind, selfless, greedy, dishonest etc etc. Doctors and pharmacists are people and amongst all professions you will get a similar mix of all characteristics.
I am happy to lend you the benefit of 20 years pharmacy business experience including financing and setting up a pharmacy
I have no desire to see a community pharmacist suffer any more than the recent issues such as DTP/CAT M/funding cuts have caused but for on objective view get my number from me via a private message *edited by mod*.

Sam I think it would be wise to send your Mobile number in a PM and remove it from your post.
It may get picked up by a web crawler and you'll get spam messages.
