Default Siting Policy for Pharmacies

Dear Colleagues

What is the legal or practice based requirement for licensing of
pharmacies in the vicinity of an existing pharmacy. Are there any
restrictions with reference to siting of a pharmacy?

Default Pharmacies

Do you mean here in the UK ?

The criteria used to be "necessary or desirable" but with all the changes in the NHS I'm not so sure any more. They don't allow pharmacies to "leap frog" over each other to get closer to the surgeries!

I think that the necessary and desirable criteria still stands unless you're going to open for 100 hrs (or more!) a week.

I think there's some clause about shop size as well. Have just tried trawling the net for the new contract details but can't find them anywhere. I think they've been hidden so no-one realises that we've been screwed!

You said, they dont allow "leap frog", good!, but is this achieved by practice or it has a backing of any policy supported with law/rules/regulations etc. on the subject?
