    employer

    Hi,

As a newly qualified pharmacist, I would appreciate what employers should I try go for and what ones I should avoid (in the multiples)

    Many thanks!

That's a "how long is a piece of string?" sort of question.

There are round holes and square holes .... are you a round peg or a square one?

I do tend to find that the general level of happiness at multiples depends on whether or not the pharmacist gets on with their area manager.

I wouldn't like to have to work for Lloyds (but never say never!), really wouldn't want to work for Boots; I have worked for Rowlands.... but don't any more

There is no straight forward answer.

Depends what you want to get out of it, how much hassle you're willing to go through at first, and where you see your career developing (managerial, clinical, head office departments etc). I would locum for a few and get a feel of the differences between each multiple and see what each has to offer

It is not only multiples that employ pharmacists. Some independents are good to work for some aren't. Some branches of multiples have nice staff it is easy to get on with and some don't. Suck it and see.

Good idea to locum a while before choosing what to do with your life.

Personally I think Boots and Lloyds have dumbed down pharmacy, supermarkets have used it as a "halo" effect and some independents let the side down. Bit there are some good jobs out there if you look hard enough. Best way to look is to locum for a while.

Locumming is not for me but it is a very important part of keeping the show on the road, an easy way for professional autonomy and can be useful if you need flexibility in your working arrangements.

What part of the country are you in? If I can offer an insight into some of the independents I respect, I would be delighted to help.
