I had a private script for sildenafil dated 15/01/09 with a note "repeat 12 times". How long is that script valid for? Does the 6-month rule apply to private prescriptions?

Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
What do you want?;..................
IIRC off the top of my head 6 months for first dispensing, indefinate for repeats (until final repeat collected). Daft isn't it?

I agree with the answer given that the first dispensing must be within 6 months but the remaining repeats are not on a time limit. In practice I would be uncomfortable dispensing after 2 years as I always look at x 12 and imagine that the GP's intention is monthly intervals. I guess I would dispense if we are now on the 10th repeat but query if it is only repeat 3 and it appears that he has not been using the sildenafil for the past few months. That feels like a first supply ethically. It is legally permitted but so much could have changed in his general health and other medication in that time that I would want to raise a query.
