NVQs were introduced to recognise and formalise skills acquired at work. It is not possible to acquire them by distance learning. Someone "suitably qualified" has to actually see you in action to be able to put their name to validating your skills. I would much rather employ someone who has an NVQ as opposed to a distance learning certificate as their people skills and ability under pressure in a work situation in principle have been assessed. The Buttercups suggestions are very good as underpinning knowledge is so important.

Yes this is a sad state of affairs that our friend can't even work free of charge. However those in work should be aware of this. There is now no excuse for having bad staff. Those that won't change can be performance managed out and motivated replacements should be easy to get.

So when pharmacists "hit a brick wall" doing NMS or being part of a "Healthy Living Centre" because their support staff won't support them, won't acquire skills required by attending courses etc there is a remedy in hand.

    Why waste a good recession?
