I know it will be varied in different locations because it is funded by the local PCTs but does anyone know how much pharmacists are paid for each service e.g. smoking cessation, EHC, substance misuse and needle exchange.

' how much pharmacists are paid for each service e.g. smoking cessation, EHC, substance misuse and needle exchange.'
Pharmacists are paid nothing. The multiples (owned by gnomes in Switzerland etc) pocket all the money.
Do not confuse pharmacists and pharmacy.

So how much does the pharmacy get for providing the service? Like you get £28 per MUR. Does the pharmacy get paid if for example a person completes a smoking cessation course?
'smoking cessation course?'
I trained to do this in two different PCTs. Never saw anyone because the surgery do it and get the cash instead, Unless a service is ring fenced to pharmacy, the Drs will simply take over. Sorry to be a cynic, extra services?
1) PCTs have not funded in past and when GPs control funding---pigs will fly first.
2)'you get £28 '. We should be so lucky. The non qualified owners get the £28, the employee pharmacist usually nothing.
3) The non qualified owners will volunteer for any service which attracts a fee, but will not provide any resources to carry out the service. Just an extra load on the donkey's back.

It varies between nothing, and a reasonable amount, by PCT. No massive profits involved though.
Usual course is to start a service on a "pilot", then remove the funding and hint that pharmacies should continue the service as dropping it would be bad for the patients you've started with.
the best paid enhanced service around here is smoking cessation, but getting the clinets is hard as they're all snaffled up by the doctors. Even then its only wothwhile doing if delegated to a trained tech, as the amount of time involved isn't worth it for a pharmacist(unless you're busy enough to have 2 )
I've been discussing conducting Appliance Usage Reviews with my pharmacist, who is also interested in the service.
1. its £58 per review (at Portsmouth City Teaching PCT), far more than the MUR.
2. The MUR is capped at 400pa. (depending on when the service was started), the AUR currently has no cap.
I believe Portsmouth PCT is currently piloting a campaign to promote 'healthy living pharmacies' a title given to pharmacies which offer a certain selection of enhanced services. (as well as some funding too!) For more info I'd get in touch with them, they seem to be an authority on the matter! (just realised the initials for Portsmouth PCT are PCT PCT, its abbreviations gone mad!)

Seeing the lack of incentive for the individual, might as well just resign oneself to doing the bare minimum =(
I disagree, there are people out there that want to quit smoking, that cant do it on will power alone. If we have the capacity to help these people then surely we should be doing everything we can to do just that. Making a bit of money for it is our incentive, not that we should need one. We are pharmacies, it's what we do.
I smoke, and I find comfort in the notion that there is help out there....IF I wanted or needed to quit that is!
