What to avoid while pregnant?

Hi im just looking for a bit of advice. I work in a pharmacy dispensery and have recently found out that i am pregnant. im just wondering what drugs i should avoid? or anything else i should avoid?

Congratulations! First of all you must inform your pharmacy manager of your condition so they can do a risk assessment (as required by Health & Safetly..)which will highlight what you should be aware of in order to continue working safely while protecting your health .Obviously confidentiality applies however in a small shop it is easier to ask for help/ avoid certain tasks if co-workers are aware of why....NPA provides a generic risk assessment form which your pharmacist can fine tune to your needs - sometimes baseline health has a bearing on what constitutes risky behaviour in your case . Most dispensary staff can work right up to period before due date with a lttle consideration . Major risks are cytotoxics (get a list from NPA) and heavy lifting - beware the un-opened town tray ; if you don't know what is in it - don't try to lift it!
Be aware that long days on your feet will take their toll as you get larger - if part of a chain it may be possible to swop branches to do duties less physical .And take a look at government website on statutory rights on clinic appointments, maternity leave etc. - in particular look at 'keep in touch days' and payment for.

that was quite detailed, i would have said cytotoxics, avoid dirctely handling tablets..and the likes of the finasteride and other hormone type drugs....although unlikely you will have direct contact with the tablets.

beware of the high shelves, i'd try and make the most of it...being a guy, i'm unable to take such an advantage in the workplace!

Anyway i'm not one to take advantage....i quite like getting my hands dirty...but there are times when delegation is better value for money!

haha, maybe. but a beer gut would just make the rest of me look out of proportion! whoever said i worked in a dispensary.....
