There's so much negative comments about community sector. There must be some positives and other reasons of choosing community over other sectors other than pay.

I'm at the point where I am doing community placement for six months and then hospital for another six. This is because is am not sure what sector I would like to go in to, more swayed to hospital. I therefore would find it difficult to answer an interview question on why choose community for my community interviews. I'm trying to find some positives to hopefully talk about.
The 'classic' answer would be that you like the whole business aspect of running a pharmacy. Though lets be honest, total BS!
I started pharmacy because I wanted to do forensic science (pharmacy is a good degree for that - lots of human biology, chemistry, drugs, analysis etc).
The pluses for pharmacy are (i) pay (at least starting pay. Hard to rise to the heights after that) (ii) flexibilty of location/job
TBH, I'd be doing forensics anyway.... if I hadn't discovered I hate chemical analysis etc at Uni![]()
Lots of unemployed forensic science graduates. My neighbour's son did a degree in criminology. The police rejected him and currently he works as a checkout operator.

Pro- well paid, very satisfying job especially with oppotunity to be your own boss and to work anywhere you wish
Against- stressful especially if working for multiple

I chose community pharmacy because I felt I could make more of an impact or difference than in hospital. The impression I got from my hospital placements during my degree were that hospital pharmacists were very much a small cog in a very large wheel and there was actually far less patient contact than in community. I think it depends on the hospital though.
Now as a community relief I have absolutely no work life balance which is getting me down so I'm beginning to wish I'd gone for hospital!
Do think very carefully about which sector you'd be happier in!
I hear this time and time again that working in multiples is stressful, personally I have only ever worked at independents and have never seen this side of things. HOWEVER I am only an assistant and can imagine that a lot of the stress in community pharmacy is only experienced by the pharmacist!!!
Negative points aside, many of the pharmacists I have worked with like community pharmacy because of the interaction you have with the patients. I think our regular pharmacists enjoy seeing regular faces. I'm not sure what the other sectors of pharmacy are like to work in, but if you want to see the more social side of pharmacy, then I think community pharmacy, especially independents, is right up your street!!!!
