for full packs that haven't even been opened there is little point counting the blisters, only those that are part packs or where you have had to assemble a prescription from 4 different boxes.....

You may like to treat CDs a little differently..... sometimes the packing machine can miss a blister hole on any medicine.... that's easy to sort out with most stuff, but imagine someone comes back and says "I tried to pop this tablet out and it was empty".... the foil is broken, it's MST 30s![]()
But on CDs if i was to dispense and check a full box, they are normally sealed either end, so i wouldn't be inclined to break the seal to check if there are actually 60 MSt tablets in the box.....
for split packs of meds i do tend to count the tablets as stated previously![]()
So, how would you deal with my scenario?
It's not entirely hypothetical, BTW - patient came back with a blister which turned out to be missing several and I have found similar once or twice since I started checking (probably over the last 10 years or so, so not exactly frequent, but still). This was before running totals - harder to deal with again these days. (And I still think the manufacturers should have done batch recalls in each case, but ho hum).
Overall, for the number of scripts involved vs the hassle when it happens, I decided long ago it was worth doing, sealed or not. (I'm not one for pulling out all the blisters on anything much else, mind you, given decent staff who I trust to be able to count).
so with respect to the scenario, if we assume it was a full box and sealed by the manufacturers, then i guess speak to them and leave the details with them and see if they have had any other problems with it...i assume it would be up to them to do a batch recall......and maybe ascertain with the patient they haven't just popped them out themselves....i guess there is no way from knowing this. would we take the patients word for it?
if the manufacureres come back with similar problems then its up to them to sort it i guess.....and then maybe that'll teach you a lesson not to double check full boxes of MST tabs![]()
