does anyone out there have a criteria list for starting patients on a dosette box...or would you start one for the little old lady who walked into your shop asking for one??
Do you do assessments on the patients to see if they "really" need one?

Yes, because it is a lot of work otherwise.
I'm convinced that the route should be...
Normal dispensing > Normal dispensing plus a MAR chart with training > dosette
Normal dispensing plus a MAR chart with training is a lot easier to keep up with.
Those who do not even need one want dosette and want it delivered as they look cool and make medication look important.
They will be the straw that breaks community pharmacy as we clammer to do more of them and some of us even do weekly fills on a monthly script just to keep the business.

Monitored Dosage Systems..God-send or Nightmare?
Good to bring it up again though..OK some people need a dosette..most people do not. In my view they are usually a complete waste of time, money, and constitute more of a risk than a benefit when well-meaning relatives start mucking about with them, claim they didn't, and blame the pharmacy for getting it wrong. These things are nothing more than a liable case waiting to happen. Avoid.
