herbal drug interaction - good reference source?

    Hello all,

I am a new member of this forum, nice to meet you all.

I am wondering perhaps some of you might able to spare your wisdom with regards to herbal drug interaction - what reference source would be recommended for herbal drug/drug (including OTC, POM) drug/disease interactions?

I often uses "Herbal Medicines by Joanne Barnes, Linda A Anderson and J David Phillipson" and "Stockley's Drug interaction". However, with the large amounts of different herbal medicines available in a retail pharmacy setting, many of which is not included in these reference sources and therefore it is difficult to tell whether a drug will or will not have interaction with conventional medicines.

What sort of things you might do in these situations?

thank you very much for the help. steven

    Hi Steven,
I wish I worked in places with large quantities of herbal medicines. I think most pharmacies are ignoring this huge opportunity.

I use the internet when people are referred across by Holland and Barratt, who are benefiting hugely from my expertise, such as it is.
    ....just my opinion

It is interesting that Holland and Barratt says that their employees have comprehensive staff-training programmes with regards to contraindications with medication or medical condition and there with be a consultant as well - but everyday many of the customers were referred by Holland and Barratt with quires on the medicines they sold. I am more than happy to help these patients/customers but it is just an interesting phenomenon.

many thanks for your help, steve

Mmmmmmmmm. I think it's one page long, and says "refer to your local pharmacy, and pick one that doesn't sell the herbal products so they have to come back."
    ....just my opinion
