So i've just finished my pre-reg and i'm now planning to locum around for a few months to build up my experience in the community. I remember talking to someone on a study day who said she had been gathering some distance learning qualifications that are neccessary for the community. I've lost the links she gave me. Can anyone offer any advice on the basic post reg qualifications expected by the community sector?
Open only in internet explorer if you are giving any assessment.
There are loads of them. All free to download and you can order two lerning programmes hard copy. Normally they send you a letter and password at the start of the pre-reg, thats when people (including me) order the 2 important modules 1. Minor Ailments 2. Repeat dispensing. Out of these the second one is a must for any pharmacist registered after the introduction of this system of repeat dispensing which is an essential service. Recently my friend who qualified this year was visited by a PCT inspector and was asked if had a certificate. My friend unfortunately left everything for post registration and now been asked to complete as soon as possible. So better finish it when you have time and fresh, rather than being asked for it when you are experienced.
Getting a regular job with experienced dispensing assistants is much more use than locumming around for a few months, if you want good experience, IMHO.
I appreciate that, but i'm not looking for a regular job at the minute. I'm applying for medicine which will be top priority till october, so i'm just looking for something flexible, and also to build up some contacts around my hometown
