I have posted this in the pharmacist-only forum, but thought I would also post it here.
I wonder if I could ask members of the forum if they have any information
regarding implementation of the new advanced services related to the supply
of appliances in England and Wales, i.e. appliance use reviews and stoma
appliance customisation.
If you are a community pharmacist, have you contacted your PCT to find out
whether they will be providing training to meet the standards for the new
services? Or has your PCT contacted you regarding the same or provided
guidance?
If you are a PCT pharmacist responsible for or involved in the provision of
community pharmacy services, do have plans in place for implementation of
the new services and will you be providing training to pharmacists to help
them meet the requirements of the new advanced services? Will you be
providing guidance to community pharmacists regarding acceptable evidence of
qualifications and competency to meet the requirements as stated in the
service direction?
Is anyone aware of any other organisations providing training related to the
services (as far as I am aware, the CPPE has no plans to)?
I am aware that in Scotland these services have been a part of the community
services contract for a few years now, so I would appreciate the views of
pharmacists in Scotland, particularly with regard to training and
qualifications/competency.
I am aware of this new supplier opportunity and have found information on catalogues of equipment, funding and wholesalers, etc. Rowlands seem to be taking the lead on this. Unfortunately at the moment there are only a few pilot areas involved. Social services departments in councils will be the commissioner in the future working with accredited suppliers. I am keen to get involved as a provider/supplier as soon as possible
Please can you elaborate? Are you talking about supply against a prescription to patients or wholesale supply to pharmacies? And how are the pilots set up? Also, how do social services fit into the picture? Will they commissioning AURs and stoma customisation services instead of PCTs?
