So, I have just been looking at the tesco site and their salaries for pharmacists are 31k to 45k(for manager).
31k is just not enough for me to commit to this career.
I want to earn £40k, is this unrealistic?

what sort of lifestyle do you live, thinking that £31k is not enough????????
remember you go though a 4year degree as a student, and then have to do the pre reg year where you will be lucky to be earning £20k for that year....
if its money your after, then pahrmacy sin't for you....go do medicine..
then again any job you do, you are unlikely to go straight in on big bucks..normally you have to work your way up from the bottom to get a decent salary worthy of your lifestyle...
Thats just at tesco though, have you looked anywhere, I thought manager prices are 50,000?
what do retail pharmacists make then?
well i work for tesco and i found out today that i'll be getting an extra 43p an hour when ive finished the nvq lvl 3 which i think gives me roughly an extra £60.00 month, i was quite happy with that
Sarting off in the community you will get 35/36 thousand - that's what I was offered from a number of companies, so the figure of 31 is false in my opinion. Managerial positions would probably attract a salary of 40 grand however some of the really massive (and busy) Boots stores would offer 45-50 grand. The salaries in these larger stores maybe be attractive, but you would have your balls busted for it and consequently your quality of life would be zero. A band 6 in hospital, you will start off on just under 25 thousand.
the managerial positions will be getting big bucks, but i doubt they will be doing much "pharmacy" they will be getting paid to manage!! and then the "2nd" pharmacist will be doing the pharmacy.....
then again i could be wrong....don't really do community!!! the above numbers all sound too good to be true!!
i started out as a relief manager (internal locum essentially) back in 03 on 27k. over the years i've 'chased the money' and sometimes, it chased me back. After a few venue / company changes i now work for a small independent for 46k. The main difference i get is that i'm now far more responsible for the running of the business and my decisions are much more make or break. So far, they've been mostly make. But my job no longer starts and stops with the opening hours of the shop or my shift pattern at the supermarket.
Even 31k, jumping from an average 18k as a pre-reg, and living in a rental house or living with parents whilst you find your 'pharmacy feet' will mean you'll have more money than sense for quite some time. Just don't do what I did and pass most of that money through your liver and kidneys on a saturday night...
