Dispensing of EU private scripts

Is a private script written by a Doctor in France, able to be dispensed in the UK if the the products, directions etc are just about legible? I realise this is another EU state, however this was the first time I seen a script from outside the UK - I checked the MEP to which there was no mention of the issue (although I did just skim through it) and phoned a few Pharmacist friends who didn't have a clue either.

Yes it's been legal for about a year or so

Thanks, I had that feeling that was the case but wasn't 100% sure. I wonder why the legislation didn't always allow this?

As far as I can tell, yes you can dispense, but you have to be sure of the bona-fides of the prescriber.

As far as I can think, you can also dispense emergency supply to EU residents.

I think we should be able to do ES for any homo sapiens provided they meet the ES criteria and there is a medical need.

The volcanic ash closure of airspace left thousands stranded a good percentage of them must have been low on medicines.

And what if you did supply non-EU resident meeting all other criteria.
That would make a good story for the Daily Mail.
