Even when the speak with authority on things they know nothing about.
Amendment of a script with minor legal errors is one thing, altering a script so the pt can avoid a charge is fraud.
    Or is It?

As it was, said mother or daughter did not appear yesterday so as yet no further development. Had the script been issued by one of our local surgeries personally I wouldn't have charged her and sent script back for amendment. However, I don't feel I should have to go chasing the out of hours service to get the script amended so that my pharmacy doesn't miss out financially - might just be one script but it all adds up in the end.

As for why the patient's mother got on to us, I can only guess it was because she worked in a surgery and thought she knew what she was on about as the patient ws in her 20s so perfectly capable imho of sorting out whether she needed to pay or not herself.

I'm suggesting that if it is in fact for contraception it is a minor legal error. I am NOT NOT NOT condoning fraud. I just don't condone senseless chasing around getting unnecessary doctor's initials etc either.
    ....just my opinion

had a co-cyprindiol 2000/35 Rx today. explained to patient before that it wasnt marked for contraceptive use and next time to avoid a charge get the doc to endorse it. came in today saying when she requested it this time her doctor told her that it doesnt need to be endorsed and should be free!

Excellent, I would ensure that all pts querying get a copy to show their GP.
Lots of things 'should' be free, I should not pay any tax. Unfortunately, we do not make the rules. I would also request the PCT to put in next surgery circular.

Well, we only know what the patient said the GP said.

But even so I'm left with a feeling of irritation that this GP has paid little attention to the fact that we just might know more than s/he does, and a consequent feeling of pleasure that they have shown what an arrogant fool they are to their patient in this way

Unfortunately reinforced by the pharmacist on Deal or No Deal yesterday who said he studied pharmacy after failing a med exam.
