    Methadone issue

Consider the following situation: the previous prescription for methadone mixture has been completed (i.e. last installment collected, according to the instruction on the script) on 15/02. The new one, presented on 16/02, is dated 16/02 and says: "from 16/02 to 01/03 (inclusive); dispense: 17/02 70 ml, 18/02 70 ml etc.". Would you dispense anything on 16/02?

Yes. Having confirmed with the prescriber (or drug worker) that this was the prescriber's intention, I would insert the missing day at the beginning and, if necessary, make any other adjustments so that the script "balanced" with the prescribers intention and the patient's needs.

Is there a total quantity marked on the form?
Sum of installment should match total otherwise adding an extra 70ml would be err.. wrong?

I think DavidS would have added "...and request replacement script to be sent through the post asap".
Original script shredded when replacement arrives.
Just make sure the 'spectre isn't due.

(Used to know a pharmacist who refered to the inspector as the 'spectre. <g>)

well, deleting the extra day at the end, if it was there, would come under the heading of "other adjustments."

Pharmanaut, is there any reason why I cannot deputise for the prescriber in altering the script to meet his/her intentions?

If the authority relied on the service sending a replacement script anytime soon I wouldn't do it at all.
But I thought we were allowed to correct minor technical infringements nowadays, provided they were in accordance with the prescriber's intention.
