    Question Dutasteride in MDS

I've recently started working in a new branch and they have an MDS patient that has Dutasteride. I assumed it wouldn't be put into the MDS but was told by another dispenser that it does go in there. What are peoples opinions on this? Is it safe/OK for me to put it into the MDS?

General answer to the question (not product specific)
Depends on the SPC, and the duration of the MDS, and how long it is going to be before the tray is actually used.
Also implications if you don't put it in MDS.
Sometimes the patient will have to be hospitalised if you don't dispense in MDS due to shortage of qualified care personnel at social services.
One or two of our patients are in this position. All dosage forms have been switched to morning, morning and bedtime or bedtime' so that a carer is not needed at lunch and teatime.
    Economics at work.

I'd hate to be put to bed at 2000hrs and woken at 0600hrs when I'm 70.

Dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin. This wouldn't occur unless the capsules leaked, however.

It's all about compliance. Is it better for a patient to take a tablet/capsule which has been deblistered for a short time or not take it at all? We had a couple of patients on Ikorel who had it in their MDS trays on the request of the doctor as he viewed it was better this way than for the patient or carer to overlook it completely. Needless to say they had a new box every week and it was made up just prior to delivery.

    Exactly.
Weekly scripts are needed and we try to pack the MDS just the day before its due so doses are out of original packaging for minimum time.
Bit tricky over christmas but we managed it.

Ikorel tabs should be stable out of the blister for up to 30 days provided that they are kept in a dry place ie. not someone's steamy bathroom!

My brain read 'bedroom' for 'bathroom'.
No wonder people have heart problems I thought.
