(Sorry for my not good level of English)

As it seems from your answers, the appearance of
a lot of pharmacies in the UK
    apart the ones belonging to
big corporations like Boots or Loyds is not very good.

Could someone explain to me the reasons??
Is about a lack of credit to invest?? Is a different mentality overall which affects people and they don't care? Is maybe the huge diversity of pharmacists' nationality that exists in the UK and the different kind of ideas which are bringing with them??

I have a strong belief that marketing is really important even in a high professional area like the pharmacy and that could increase dramatically the profits...

Absolutely agree with you. Pharmacy owners, with some exceptions, are loath to spend any money on the business. Tomorrow I am taking in staples because the management expect them to materialise out of thin air, and when they do provide a pack from the pound shop, they jam up the stapler, also provided by me.

I am glad that qualified pharmacists are voicing their opinion on this. As a student I sometimes find it difficult to voice my opinion on subjects like this; simply because I am inexperienced?

I agree with everyone here that untidy pharmacies are inexcusable and give a bad image of the pharmacy profession as a whole. I also think that pharmacists who do not wear smart clothing at work (and i don't mean full suit) are also doing the pharmacy profession a disservice. I read some really good articles in the C+D a few months ago that focused on refitting and re-branding pharmacies. Even looking at these should trigger some kind of thought process.

As said above, there is very little business training for pharmacists. I personally think - though I wouldn't take it up myself - that there should be the opportunity to undertake a business module on the pharmacy degree. At our uni all our optional modules are science or clinical based, why not have other options such as business? I know at Bradford they have the chance to do business as an option - shouldn't this be rolled out to all universities?

My friend did a placement in France and the pharmacy he worked in was immaculate. However, I may try and find a really run down one in Paris next time I am there!

    1. Are you registered with the corresponding pharmaceutical society in France? How is the situation over there? I wanted to learn France but is quite difficult for me!

    2. As far as the courses which are taking place in the Universities and you mentioned....

This is a good chance in my opinion to use the lack of information provided by universities about business management and marketing in our own advantage. There are so many books about marketing which we can read and use it for developing a new kind of Pharmacy. Comfort, effectiveness and be the client in the center of all the operations could be the priorities! (for sure they are pharmacies like this but should not be a lot).
