In the old days Jewish pharmacists covered Christmas and Christians did the same for Yom Kippur. Now would expect Muslims and Hindus to cover Christmas while Christians cover Divali and Eid.
One of the advantages of a multiethnic society.

I have an email somewhere which seems to indicate that we will not be required to open on Christmas Day next year. PSNC website indicates that Christmas Day (regardless of the day of the week on which it falls), is a day which you are not required to open, even if the bank holiday is moved. . New Years day 2011 will be affected though. Opening Hours Regulations PSNC

But people do take a holiday. Christmas rota is a ghost town, and there a steady stream of antibiotics on Boxing Day. BUT all cope-able with by one pharmacy in the area, in an hour. No need to have every pharmacy open, normal hours.

very true, one pharmacy would be enough but pharmacies dont realise this and want the profit. True it is the majority of junior staff. Most senior nurses, pharamcists and doctors etc will be off

our pct is willing to consider requests to close on saturday on a first come first served basis providing there is enough pharmaceutical cover . I pleaded our case to shut and at the time we were due to open on the bank holiday for rota !. I was excused the saturday then they stood me down for the monday as well as Boots etc in town are open- result !

Don't talk to me about PCT's.
After two years of being open till 7.00pm on Xmas Eve and New Years Eve, this year we requested to close early on both these days. We decided that after our surgery shuts at 1.00pm, we'll stay open (playing games and eating mince pies) till 5.00pm just to make sure. We applied way back in February and showed our sales/scripts figures for 2008 and 2007 that clearly show nil in both coloumns after 2.00pm on both days. To be blunt, as soon as our surgery shuts, that's it......we get absolutely NO trade at all.

Do you know the reasons for turning us down??? Just in case there is a Swine Flu epidemic and that there are no services being provided in our area on Boxing Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????
We are OPEN normal hours on boxing day!!!!

I'm beginning to really despise those folk in their ivory tours at PCT offices.......wonder what time they'll sly off home on those days??? Happy Christmas folks

Althought there may be a few good PCTs around, I have absolutely zero confidence in the ability of our local PCT to do anything properly.
