Does one have to be a pharmacist to open a Pharmacy in the UK?
Hi all,
I'm a new member here so please be nice
I've been working in the Regulatory sector of the Pharma Industry for over 16 years but I am not a qualified pharmacist. I do have a degree in Chemistry.
I would now like to buy a running pharmacy business here in the UK and was looking around on the net for info when I came across this forum.
So the main question is; Do you have to be a pharmacist to buy and operate a UK pharmacy? Or can I make the investment but employee a full time pharmacist?
What kind of deposits would the banks require to finance a pharmacy? If I was looking at a property around the £500k mark how much would I need in liquid capital before the banks would look to lend?
Im sure there will be more questions to follow so thanks for bearing with me.

No. For instance, Lloyds, Rowlands, Tesco and Adsa are owned by their shareholders. A pharmacist must be a employed to supervise the professional services.
What the banks want now is anyones guess. Have a chat to Shipleys accountants, they advertise on this forum, and specialise in Pharmacy accounts, which need a specialist, really..
