I made a CD mistake in my first week. I never knew how pedantic it all was. Make sure due to inexperience that during your first week, check double check and triple check all your cd's!!!
Thanks Zoggite. I think my first week was easy compared to today.
The surgery pharmacy was closed so I doubled my script numbers today and had to triple check scripts after a while as my head was buzzing.
I got the "You nearly killed me" once today when I have generic omeprazole for a generic omeprazole script. Apparently I was supposed to read the new patients mind that she only liked Generics UK omeprazole.
I also got the "you did it wrong" twice. No I didn't, they didn't order their right medication on their repeat.
I think your right about PABA Johnep.
LLUK77 - thanks. the management reports are all straightforward and the main dispenser likes doing them yay!. I have changed the staffing around and got a bit of aggro from one staff member. The previous managers for the last 10 years probably had the same problem with her and the area manager warned me about her lol. I get on really well with the other staff. They've had really rubbish locums for the last yr so they are happy to have me and i'm happy there. As for H+B I have found out one of the multiples is in the same shopping centre so I guess i'm lucky that I don't get 30 a day.
DavidS - my store has herbal products, vitamins and minerals. I know a fair but about pharmacognosy but I'm not comfortable with recommending them to anybody esp. with multiple prescription items. The good part of alternative medicine have already been incorporated into modern medication or am I being controversial. But I agree independents who can decide what stock they keep could make a killing.
Pharmanaut - I will look into the advance patient records feature in Pharmacy manager. I think I know how to do it and have done it. will ask the dispenser. I know what you mean about H+B being "natural". A patient said they contain "no chemicals or pesticides not like wot the doctor gives." A mini laugh or cry situation.
Dizzyb23 - i agree about delegation. I'm just screwed every Wednesday so at least I know now.
Minisini - Looking at my CD records we only dispense some matrifen Fentanyl patches about once a month regularly. Most of the patients with CD in the last 6 months (except methadone) were for patientd that I referred to my new pharmacy from my pre-reg branch when we had run out or were closing on a saturday.
I don't have many addicts so the methadone scripts are easyish to keep track of. I have made an error writing up records but I knew right away and starred them. I think it was the nerves of writing in the register that got to me.
Thanks for listening to my rant. Offloading is good. I'm trying not to dwell too much on any aspect of my performance so far but I think i'm doing ok.
I'm just not getting this induction pack done. Who can take an hour off to watch a health and safety video and some customer service videos. I couldn't even manage to sign the SOPs. I had to do that mostly at home. I'm not bothered as I think the company need me more than I need them so they won't look at an induction pack when i'm saving them a tenner an hour on not having to employ a locum. Don't get me wrong I want to be a good Pharmacist it's just that I prioritise patients first and watching videos on shelf stacking and facing up last.
I've noticed in life 90% of my success has come from turning up everyday on time and getting on with it. I think inevitably as i'm new i'll have to build up a stress tolerance or recognise the stressors and how to deal with it (e.g. I'm not keeping in a specail brand of generic for every patient). I've worked in a place where we did 1000 rx items in a day albeit with about four more times staff hours so I know what busy is.
I think i'm now realising the jump from pre-reg to Pharmacist has happened and I need to get on with it. I'm finished with my complaining. I actually love my job so far.
