Depends what it is and which drug tariff (England/Wales, Scotland or Nor'n Ireland)
Probably not a lot of bulk chemical ingredients or category Part VIIIE/Part 7 in the drug tariff any more.
Not a lot of this happens in community pharmacy these days due to the fall out over the Boots peppermint water case. Much of it is sent to 'licensed specials labs'.
Many pharmacies don't even have the equipment, or if they do it will take you longer to find it and clean it up enough so that its fit for use than it will do to the extemping.
Here are some that you could encounter...
A simple ointment/cream dilution
A set of powders.
Mixture to prescribers formula.
Standard BP mixture.
Used to make up two suspensions of fludrocortisone and hydrocortisone for a child every week using "quant suff" crushed up tablets in Keltrol.
Used to endorse this
Disp Extemp
Number of tablets used ex pack size
to 150ml Keltrol
Used to submit copy of Keltrol invoice for price. (don't need to submit them now - just keep them in case they are called in for inspection).
Also used to claim "out of pocket" expenses for handling and carriage.
Probably never got paid beyond covering our costs - look at what the specials labs charge.
