    Question Should I feel guilty?

    OK guys -

It is a matter of ethics:

I was approached by an agency touting a pharmacist, I already had her number from using her as a locum before so I contacted her myself - and have subsequently employed her.

I didn't ask the agency to find me anyone and I never signed any terms and conditions - the position wasn't even advertised as we were going to try to fill it internally. The agency are now looking for a fee. Personally I think they should have made contact with me beforehand to see if I was happy to accept the CV and then send it.

    Should I feel guilty??

I'd be charging them for storage of the unsolicated goods (CV) they sent you until it's collected.

Or, in other words, two can play at that game.

In a word, no. Their approach was unsolicited, you signed no agreement with the agency in question and you already knew the pharmacist previously. In most civil cases, "if it wasn't written down, it didn't happen" applies.

Tell them to bugger off and pick their client base a bit better next time.

From a business perspective ask yourself - would they screw you over if they knew they could get away with it? Of course they would.

If this particular agency never approaches you with potential recruits again, i wouldn't worry. There's plenty more out there!
