    OTC quick guide

    hi,

    1st post (hopefully useful)

I made a table of OTC products to recommend for common community pharmacy presentations e.g. what is the 1st line medication for constipation in pregnancy?

Saves me a lot of time.

Click the link below to access the table, and you can make any changes/comments you want (like a wikipedia page)

I have not followed the link, first time poster urging us to visit a site when such info already available. Suspicious.
Let him/her post a few extracts first.

LOL - sort of like it - if nothing else it can go down as CPD ;-)

Still looks a bit like an application looking for a use.

co-codamol as first choice for anything?? You must be kidding

    Usual declaration of interest

    Re: OTC quick guide

OK OK, have just got a bit cautious. My wife and I have used Kwells first line for sickness (not due to overindulgence). One tablet under the tongue is quick acting. Stugeron being centrally acting, take when problem of longer duration, eg DHC makes my wife fill sick.

Buccastem M probably even better. I know none of these has general sickness on label. OTCs have to have an indication and manfs go for biggest market.

When I am really bad with the pharoah's revenge, take one motilium + one buscopan + one loperamide.

When I was in export could not afford to be sick.

I second that, except I'd probably go for 2 buscopans, and a Dioralyte on top!

It needs updating following the recent guidance on children's medicines.

Things like this are OK but often out of date as soon as they are written so its important to have a "last updated" date on it so anyone viewing it knows if it is current or not.

    Thanks for your input.

    This highlights 2 important points:

    1) The new cough medicines rules are an ideal example of how this OTC guide can be more upto date than a text book.

    2) As you can see I havn't had time to up date the list, but any of the thousands of pharmacists in this forum can.

P.S. I'm going to start cutting out excess comments, since pharmacists should already be aware of certain things e.g. Nasal sympathomimetics not to be used for > 5-7 days.

    thanks.

Don't think there are thousands of pharmacists on here...
