I'd really like to see the real Spice Islands in indonesia- the Moluccas, Amboyne, Run, etc.. , where the clove trees originally came from; What does a nutmeg tree look like?

There are currently two test cases being brought by independent pharmacists to the Supreme Court of Ireland regarding this disagreement, which revolves around on-cost remuneration, currently 50% plus fees, for all private scripts dispensed within the DPS system, introduced by the HSE itself. Personally, I think they will be successful. One pharmacist who owns five shops has already taken the HSE to court and won. He is now exempt from any reduction in remuneration, pending the result of the Supreme Court actions. Point in case here..The Irish don't lie down..they FIGHT!

I don't think there are too many pharmacies making too much money. Although Ireland is a small country, there are relatively few cities or large towns (Dublin excepted). Therefore in rural areas, a local independent pharmacy is still universally accepted as a pre-requisite in the community, and is both appreciated and supported fully by the local population..they do not like English chains..especially if they had to drive for at least an hour to get to their nearest branch of e.g. Boots.

Regarding the infiltration of multiples, Boots have made very little headway. Unicare have no experienced managers whatsoever, ATeam locum agency are merely one of many, and are cutting their rates to attract independent clients...so far it hasn't worked. One of the first chains to appear in Ireland were McSweeney Group..(Dutch owned). They recently sold off 10 shops in a rationalisation process.

Rates of pay may vary, especially towards the border, but as I don't practice that far north, I really couldn't say.

An influx of 240 newly-qualified pharmacists this year is most welcome. I honestly could have filled this year three times over..further, I know for a fact that many of them want to move to Britain upon completion of their pre-reg year!

Finally..welcome Solly!!...I'll buy you a few pints of porter..

The HSE are eyeing up greedily Irish Pharmacies settlement discount. They want 8% off the drug bill which at present comes into community pharmacy. In the UK it is clawed back from pharmacies using the discount recovery scale at the start of the drug tariff. So far Irish pharmacists have got a stay of execution. Make hay while the sun shines but the high locum rates in the republic are only sustainable whilst this current level of remuneration persists.

It won't persist.

Saw nutmeg trees and clove also when in Grenada in April. Tried to post pics but appears cannot do in this forum. Nutmeg tree like a plum with green to yellow fruits. Takes 15 years to mature properly and most treeis in Grenada destroyed in hurricane.

You show a surprising lack of imagination.

If you also lack ambition I'd suggest 18 months of being a locum followed by 6 months of travel. Repeat until mid 30's when other half feels the call of the biological clock.

South Africa is't that dangerous - but still has an amazing degree of institutionalised racism - mainly directed at asians.

If you visit Argentina - you might as well take in more of South America.
It's a continent full of contrasts.

If you get to Egypt/Tunisia - head south - 20 kids hanging on to the Land Rover while you drive up the Bandriaga Escarpment is a fun moment.

the list was extremly brief,i.e. i iddnt really explain what aspect of the countries i wanted to see but that not because lack of imagination but because of time constraints. (infact I ooze creativity)

Now with the s.africa, its not dangerous?????, have you heard whats been happening there recently with crime etc....- i am "Asian" so thats that, im not risking anything, ive got my patients to think about

second, south america- i see your point i might try chile/peru/uruguay but defo avoiding brazil (brasil). There was a time I was interested in the amazon, and rainforests, but that is behind me,i dont see the point in that, especially with all this global warming crap going around,

I know with all the falklands war stuff etc... but I wana go argentina firstly to see my favourite team Boca Juniors, also (I will say it here because my potential competitors would be very unlikely to be touting on this forum) argentina is a gr8 place to start a business or invest in, forget about china/india those markets are saturated with entrepreneurs. 23rd largest economy, impressive considering all the rich countries in Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, China, India etc.... id go for brazil but cant be assed learning portuguese, prefer spanish.

I'll see if they want a new pharma company or something similar.China/India bubble will burst, latin america will Boom boom!!!! just like the dot com bubble.

Fair enough, but here's the latest development..

So much for the "power" of the multiples...they just fell off a very high fence....bring it on!

bunny knows more, perhaps she could update us how much she is being offered as a recently qualified pharmacist ( if she does not mind).
