well... i work in the birmingham area - but £25 sounds too gud to be true... standard rate here is £21 and then upwards on weekends and weird hours!

if your getting anything like £25 go do locuming!!

dont worry about working for different stores - u get use to the different systems and soon you are fine with them all.

Boots will also pay in two hours travelling, so you can claim 11 hours work (standard nine hour day). They also pay the 40p/mile.

So if you get in a Boots store, and travel say 50 miles each way, you can earn £275 + £40 = £315. Also some of their stores don't even do prescriptions - take a good book.

Mostly with a bit of travel, other companies pay about £225 to £250 per day.

I can also stress that making yourself a Ltd company helps a lot. It costs at least £250 to set up, but with a good accountant can drop your tax bill to 3 or 4k a year - depends how much you earn of course. This is all legal by the way, it's not worth trying to cheat the Inland Revenue - they will catch you!

If you need an accountant post again and I can put you in touch with a good one.
I'm thinking about giving this locum lark a go. Let me get this clear, are you saying you only pay £3K/£4K tax on a years income? I know there will be accountants fees but this sounds too good to be true. Even if you worked four days a week this means your average income would be around £52K. Paying £3-£4K tax on this would be amazing. Can you provide further info on how this is done together with an idea of the accountant fees.

Cheers

Hi

I only work a four day week, and last year my accounts said my earnings were £37k. I paid just over £3k tax on that, plus NI (about £400 as I remember) and around £900 accountants fees.

My accountant specialises in tax savings measures, so I just follow what he tells me.

In order to be a locum you must have
A.Home PC and internet connection for CPD - software e.g. MS Office
B Phone
C Mobile/PDA
D Car
E Laptop for MUR's (if your writing is bad and the pharmacy can't do an elctronic one) - and portable printer - and paper - and ink
and so on
Make sure you get and save all the receipts.

I have all these Jeff and they are all tax deductable. You also count up your milage, car costs etc which all come out of your profits (you'd pay them anyway) so that all reduces your tax burden.

Admin,
I'm liking what you're saying more and more!
Do you think it would be feasible to work as a locum for, say, 6 months of the year, and spend the other 6 months/year on one's yacht in Greece? Hypothetically speaking, of course...
