Red face locum fees

No wonder multiples, the NPA etc want remote supervsion, you folks in community are on a roll ...better than hospital or primary care
Good luck to ya.. may the money continue and never dry up.. mark my words ..it will with remote supervision.. there will be no locums for a start, responsible pharmacists will delegate to other competent staff

Thats why I'm making the most out of it while it lasts. I also have two years salary saved in the bank in case I have to train to do something else.

Cool

wow..impressive !
what do you think about remote supervision and what would you re-train as ? I've been on the register for 15 years , all I've ever known and wanted to be is a pharmacist.I intend to to stand up and fight.....hopefully with positive results ,I voted for Dorothy Drury at the local council elections because I believe in her

The superviosn law should be relaxed but remote supervision is ridiculous and can only benefit multiples,we studied pharmacy to serve the public ,providing safe pharmaceutical care and make a decent living

How did you know this? To this day I still don't have any idea why I chose to (finally) study Pharmacy, I have absolutely no recollection of any decision-making process...! Don't get me wrong, I have no regrets, I'm thoroughly enjoying my choice of career, as you might have gathered from my previous posts; It's just that I have no idea how I ended up here, my most feasible hypothesis so far is that I had a crush on a guy I spotted in the Pharmacy Students' Union bar!
If I ever have to re-train, I'd become a vet, you'll be surprised to learn...!

Zo

So that's how you made your career choice - you fancied a guy in the bar.....

I worked in industry and everyone who was anyone was a pharmacist. I meant to go back there, but got side tracked to other things.

If I had my time over I'd be joining you as a vet.

Its always been pharmacy for me, I loved biology and chemistry as a youngster and wanted to go for Biochem, but was told by my careers advisor that pharmacy would be a better choice due to the various career options..so 15 years later here i am! still smiling

Unhappy Pay rates, etc etc

Hey all

I'm currently starting my pre-reg but after reading the posts on this thread I'm wishing I hadn't started off on this long trek to become a pharmacist. I knew that remote supervision was in the future, but I thought it was more in the distant future!?!?

I've heard as well that because the multiples have bought up most of the independents that pharmacists' salaries will be driven down because we're seen as just another department manager in these large chains. Basically we won't have the same status/respect as other health professionals if we're just seen in this way

Hi Mikey and welcome

The multiples buying up all the shops doesn't control salary, simple supply and demand does. At the moment they are highish, but with the massive influx of foreign pharmacists I don't know if it will stay that way. As for remote supervision we'll just have to wait and see what happens on that one. If the multiples get their way, one pharmacist will cover six shops, putting the other five pharmacists on the dole.

We have never had the status and respect of other health professionals (and non professionals) but you'll just have to get used to that I'm afraid. In reality a Dr's receptionist has more power then we do, and some nurses can now prescribe all drugs, so they won't want to pay us for doing that as nurses are much cheaper.

If you have a read through more of the threads you'll get the idea of the differing views some people have. You still have options open to you, but I personaly couldn't recommend retail. If I were you, I'd do my pre-reg, pass my exams, pay off my debts then decide what I want to do.

That's not the future, it's now. I worked in another town the other week, and the local PCT news letter said prescribing nurses can now prescribe all drugs, with the exception of some CD's.

All the multiples are bringing Polish pharmacists over in the dozens.

Ask other pharmacists about respect, don't take my word for it.

Remote supervision will lose pharmacists their jobs in the hundreds. There is a post on here about the NHS considering having nurses supervising pharmacies.

If you have time, just read through the recent posts. I know there are over 1000 on this site, but the recent ones will give you a good idea of what's going on in pharmacy right now.

If you need any help I'll put links in a post to them for you.

Above all, keep yer chin up!
