question if any one can answear

I saw a prescription where a patient was prescribed a coricosteriod and as part of the directions it said for PMS. The patient was on diabetic medication and alendronic acid. Does anyone have any ideas what PMS stands for. The patient was over 60.......

I asked the patients daughter and she said she wasnt sure. The patient was on them long term because i looked at the patient medication record. Also because the patient was prescribed alendronic acid which i assumed was to prevent corticosteriod induced osteoporosis. The patient histroy showed she was on metformin, glicazide, losartan, alendronic acid, adcal d3 chewable tablets, and 1mg corticosteriods. the RX stated the dose which i cant rember and said for pmr. Just wanted to know what PMR stands for.

I think when you typed PMS people were thinking pre-menstrual syndrome ! PMR is polymyalgia rheumatica, a common indication for steroids.

thanks nick i have read up on it on patient.co.uk. I just wanted to know what it stands for. It could have not been premenstual symptoms because the patient was over 65.
