Have to say I agree with Asterix on this one. What a ridiculous decision ! I also have not looked at the drug tariff much but have tried to look at it a bit more since starting pre-reg but in what depth are we supposed to know it ? Pretty harsh that there will still be questions on it in the open book but we can't take it as a reference source.

the pharmacists who have recently qualified have come out with 'it wont be on' bla bla bla. All the previous years had it easy and now we are being made to suffer as the scottish one is electronic. Good luck to this profession and the ever pathetic regulation.

Again with the melodramatics - get your head down and learn ES, CD schedules and prescription and POM register requirements, as these are the bare essentials you should know in the exam without having a MEP to hand. Every pre-reg before you has had to sit down, bored out of their arse, with an MEP in front of them, knowing full well that they need to learn this stuff for the exam. You are no different.
With regards to DT - it's published every month so familiarise yourself with it. Don't "learn" it, because you can't. It's a tariff, not a textbook. Know the most important sections and what they relate to (part 8 being very important, but also blacklist, ACBS and charges). Learn the difference between remuneration and reimbursement and make sure you understand the essentials of how you get paid (in community).

You will get about 2-3questions on the drug tariff...thats about it, they arent going to make you learn the drug tariff or mep. If anything i see it as being easier, they wont and cant expect you to know it all. Usually a syllabus is produced for the exam, check that out before jumping up and down and throwing your toys out the pram!

Thanks for the advice there Nik, I seem to be getting through pre-reg ok with loads of advice from guys like you. Its just a case of sitting down and learning the stuff and knowing where to look for everything in the bnf.

    Cheers.

i know its looks difficult that they ve taken out both reference sources but to some extent its much better.....you have to learn ethics any ways as clossed book apart from chemicals, poisons, bla bla.....and regarding drug tariff ,bnf also contains border line substances, dental and nurse prescriber stuff......so rather than opening drugtariff we can use bnf......i dont think so there should be any problem.
they never asked alcohol, poisons or chemicals in close book......to some extent they are not our enemies.....yes some times they do put some questions which r out of reach for an averge student but these are very few.....we should try our best, try try again and think positive.......the more we will curse gphc, the more we will be running away from our passing target......be optimistic.....cheers

Gone is your professional fee and your reimbursement for the item. The prescriber is not bothered, and the patient isn't as they have got there medicine/appliance etc.

Then of course there are referred scripts - delayed payment.
The thing is, pharmacists employed by the multiples won't be bothered because it doesn't affect them. It does, on the other hand, affect the business owner, especially if the items referred back are very expensive.

If young pharmacists are not knowledgeable about reimbursement, they will not be in a good position to have their own business. Perhaps this is the future ie. domination by multiples. Sad really.
