I saw one audit that was about the average time it would take for prescriptions. Your tutor might actually show some interest in that one since it will be to do with how fast you can fire prescriptions out!

Do a complete CD register check along with CD stock check. It is also an audit and if in the process you find any discrepencies you can reaudit to find how these can be minimised

I'm having a similar issue in the sense that my tutor is ancient and hates getting involved with the clinical aspect. He's actually complaining about the NMS and he's not even got his acreditation for MURs, which means that he's unable to teach or guide me with that. When it comes to dispensing, he doesn't give any tips or any advice on best ways to pick out clinical problems. He doesn't counsel his patients, and it's quite negative when I ask him whether I should counsel a patient if they're taking a new drug. The only think he ever counsels with is antibiotics. He feels it's a waste of time.

Regardless of whether your tutor is MUR accredited or not, teaching you about it is almost pointless, cos being a pre-reg automatically means we're underqualified to carry out such services anyway. I think all I ever needed to know about NMS right now is to identify patients that are eligible for it. I understand that you may want to sit in on an actual consulatation, but lets be honest....NMR = repackaged version of MUR. If you've sat through an MUR, you've pretty much sat through an NMS. If you've ever counselled a patient on their medication, you're already doing NMS (but unpaid).

For me, if I have dispensed a drug which appears to be the patient's first time receiving it from our pharmacy, I always ask if they have had it before. If they say they haven't then it opens up a branch of ways you can counsel the patient =) (just make sure you are prepared on what to counsel on).

Drop me a text whenever you're free/bored at work. Help me, help you =)
