Hi, I am currently applying for pre reg. Is there any advice you can give me, stuff that you know now that you wish you knew when applying.
Also, any tips on good hospitals to apply to?
thanks![]()

Hey I have finished my pre-reg in community with Lloyds what I wish I did was take a pre-reg in hospital the reason why I say this is that in community a pre-reg is used as slave labour and they treat you like crap most times (several of my friends in community had this experience with other multiples) whilst all my friends had a very positive experience in hospital the thing to remember is that at hospital you won't get any extra teaching but a lot ofmy friends in hospital had more allocated time for learning and if the wards were quite they were able to go to the hospital library to do learning. Me on the other hand slogged my gut out from 9-6 (minus my lunch hour) and when I got home thats when i did learning! But let me warn you this is only my experience so check with other people!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sure you are completely correct. a pre reg in community is just a cheap pair of hands.

Never work for independents! Or ask advice from people who have already worked at the specific place. When i did my placement, i had to basically run both the dispensary and the healthcare counter at the same time. I had the worst experience ever. Also i hardly got any study time. I needed to complete all my jobs before i could get my study hour. I did 2 weeks cross sector at hospital and loved it. So much more freedom and you dont get to see any green fp10 forms![]()
I don't mean to sound harsh but that is the reality of being a pharmacist. You may have had a very bad experience but I would rather employ somenone who was able to run a dispensary and the counter than someone who spent the year working through a perfect training programme.
Study, or CPD as we call it now, is something that has to be done after work. That isn't fair. Other professionals get protected study time but we don't so the sooner a person learns that the less likely they are to get disillusioned in the future.
Herbenia I dont think its fair but that is the reality I don't know why but Lloyds sent me as a rep during university career fairs I guess they did'nt realise my disdain for the company but that is exactly what I told people about community pharmacy and what to expect I guess it reflects the salary difference in community and hospital.
I guess it depends on where you are, I am currently doing pre-reg with an independent and haven't been used as a an extra pair of hands. Also I know people in hospital who don't get study time but if i were you would definitely avoid the multiples as all they will teach you is how the 3for2 offer works... targets targets and nothing else! Capitalism sucks I wish a virus kills it soon

”We are real. We are not glam sh*t or anything else. We are Guns N’ Roses.”
Working in Pharmacy, you can't help but notice how damaging capitalism is to patient care. Just look at how people go without their medication now because more profit can be made by sending them elsewhere.
