    Unreasonable demands?

Would you say it is reasonable for a pre-reg pharmacist to be expected to pour out just over 80 individual methadone doses into bottles (daily), make up and enter batches, enter up all collected installments into the register, clean all the re-used bottles as you go along aswell as dispensing prescriptions that come in, answering the phone and doing errands such as delivering medication all at the same time.

I dont mind doing this, as it is part of the job, but the issue is that sometimes due to priorities all the cd scripts will not be entered on that day. I then get told repeatedly that im working way too slow which i do not agree with. I also get told off for bottles being dirty, but this is due to having old equipment and also due to working fast.

Before you ask there is no dispensor or pharmacy assitant to help with these tasks and the pharmacist is mostly on the phone sorting out personal or other work issues.

And of course the pharmacy receives your pay as a grant.

    Re: Unreasonable demands?

OK, so, if you are "recycling" supervised methadone bottles they can only be used for the same patient, surely? So the time for rinsing and relabelling is when the addict comes in for their dose (subject to sops, of course, but that's what the npa ones say, I think).

Secondly, I'm afraid that this is what pharmacy is like in some shops, so yes, you are gaining experience validly.

Thirdly, the CD regulations do allow the entries to be made on the following delay, although it makes a daily balancing of the register problematic, to say the least (although a running balance of methadone is not legally required and pretty much a waste of time anyway). One thing you might try is to write up the entry ahead of time, and just fill in the quantity when it's collected, or a zero if no-one turns up. This gets over the last minute rush of addicts coming in at the end of the day.

Lastly, when you qualify, just think, you will be able to spend all day on the phone discussing your personal problems like the rest of us, lol.
    ....just my opinion
