    Pharmacy pre-reg uniforms...

I'm applying for a community pre-reg placement now, and was just wondering, are there any companies that make pre-reg pharmacy students wear a uniform?

I know its not important....i'm just curious.
I heard Lloyds do...what about Boots, Co-op, Rowlands?

I can't speak from experience as I work for the good old NHS but my (female) friend who works for Boots was told she had to wear those hideous blouses, but she refused; and my (male) friend has to wear the Boots tie. I know of one smallish chain that asks students and pharmacists to wear lab coats but again they refuse unless senior management are in attendance.

Irrespective of whether you will have to wear a "uniform" in the issued by the company sense - your "uniform" will be smart trousers and a shirt/blouse to reflect the professional that you are training to be.

However, surely you are not going to base your choice of company for prereg on whether or not you have to wear a uniform? There are far more important things such as whether you like the company, their reviews from past preregs and any other experiences you have with them which should be more pivotal in your decision making process?

    Not sure what the problem is;
Uniform : saves buying clothes for work.
Also changing out of it when you get home puts 'closure' on the day.
Only problem is if you only get one set laundering is a nightmare.

Non-uniform : Please dress to a high standard and look 'business' smart. It reflects on you as a professional.

Nikolai - our techs wear a uniform but I haven't heard of any pharmacists that have to - though I do know of one hospital where pharmacists get to wear scrubs.

I've heard of a few trusts where pharmacists wear a uniform, although that would presumably be just a shirt and dark trousers for men. The female pharmacists at our hospital get away with wearing casual tops and blouses with trousers or even slacks ! I'm not fussed so long as I get a few shirts to keep me going.

When I did my pre-reg, many many years ago, female staff including the pre-reg and pharmacists were expected to wear skirts, trousers weren't acceptable!
Funnily the habit stuck, because when you stand all day support tights are wonderful but except on the coldest days not under trousers, so I still usually wear a skirt suit as my 'uniform'.
Over the years it has got harder to get suitable, hard-wearing and machine washable ones as shops like M+S and Next do mostly trouser suits.

I think what youre going to wear should be the least of your worries! You will still be treated the same way and have to learn the same things.

    I remember the B**ts tie.
Argued and argued that the B should not go immediately below the knot, but hey-ho everyone knew better.
So it was worn with an incredibly short wide part of the tie, with an incredibly long narrow part.
Still, at least they gave me a porters overall (beige) for unloading into the basement stock room - but only after ruining a white coat.
