    Not getting signed off..

Its looking doubtful that I will be signed off by my tutor.

He seems to think I'm not 'alert' and focused enough to run a pharmacy, both of which I constantly try to improve upon and believe I have done so, but apparently not

Anyone have any advice on how I can proceed? Is there anyway to get a second-opinion?

    thanks

    thats really crap

I'm not sure there's much you can do about it as you have both signed a learning contract. You could perhaps approach the superintendant pharmacist but that depends on whether they have seen enough of you in practice.

Has your tutor given you constructive advice on how you could improve on your weaknesses?

Looks like you work for a bad Independent pharmacy with staff problems. There are many instances where people have been working as pre-reg students almost up to 4 months after passing the exam, since they were not signed off. The society has given enough powers to the tutors that they can give any reason not to sign you off and have a cheap labor.

Having said that, it is also possible you do need to improve upon these things which you can constantly work on. He/ she could have given this reason for not employing you as a pharmacist rather than a reason not to sign you off. You say that you have been trying to improve, does that mean you agree with him/her on the comments? Was this brought to your notice regularly or it is just now that you have to be signed off he/she is making it up ?? all these can help if you were to appeal to the society for a second opinion/ consideration. Given the case there is very little you can do but impress upon the tutor/ reuest them to sign you off, there is nothing much you can do I am afraid.

solomonQ, that sort of comment really isn't helpful. Who are you to reflect on this students pre-reg performance?!

We have had similar problems in the past with indifferent or downright bullying tutors driving pre regs almost to breakdown. Another reason to join the PDA.
I have heard cases of medical SHOs having to suck up to consultants on whom they are dependant for a reference.

I think the Tutor must be a giant asshole in this case. Probably a very serious person as well. It probably depends on how well you get on with him/her from day to day (I probably would to had committed murder in the dispensary for my tutor not to sign me off, we got on that well.)

there is a section on our progress reports to add comments; I think this is where you can raise concern regarding your tutors guidance. Although it would be a bit late in this instance

I'm a member of the PDA. I remember speaking to them about the bullying and the advice was to grin and bear it, which is pretty much all I can do.

Okay let me rephrase the original question.
Now that my tutor has refused to sign me off, what would you recommend I do next?

    thankyou

erm...you've done the same...log in your own eye, speck in mine etc....

why is it that whenever a pre-reg student mentions their tutor isn't signing them off it's always the tutors problem, they're the asshole 'cos apparently 100% students should pass at the end of 52 weeks no matter what.

Also why is it that whenever someone points a finger at a fellow professional, a registered pharmacist, we pay no thought in their support and find them guilty straight away? If fellow pharmacists think all other pharmacists are assholes what chance have they got with other HCPs.

Maybe the tutor is an extremely careful pharmacist who takes his/her training of pre-regs seriously. Sol-Adore him/herself mentions "staying focused", maybe he/she is still making dispensing errors even towards the end of the pre-reg year.

Finally, I said should'ave worked harder, Is bambalec saying to SOL-aDORE that he/she shoudnt have worked harder? he/she has worked hard enough? obviously not, otherwise he/she would have been signed off, even IF the tutor was an asshole. QED
