Its not all about the money

Pre-regs, employees and the like always get told by employers its not all about the money or that they dont make much profit. But why is it that these same people, who are themselves quite well off, watch every penny and try and save or make money wherever possible? One example is the pre-reg registration fee of £170. Now some employers will ask the trainee to pay this fee, but really if they are getting a grant over 16K+ and paying minimum wages then surely they are still left with more than enough 'profit' to cover the costs of all fees, training days, first aid courses and any relevant books?

I obviously don't know about the particular circumstances that you find yourself in.

However, if I want to do a vocational job, not for the money, but for the job satisfaction, then of course I have to consider the money side as well. If I don't cover my costs, I will lose access to the job satisfaction.

On the other hand, I could just be lying because I think it sounds good, and covers up my lousy business ability!

In the very old days when the articulate classes had wealthy parents, the children often said they wanted to do something 'for the good of their fellow men'. It thus became fashionable to say that money was not important. Unfortunately, it has been my experience that those who espouse this point of view usually have a private income. One of my bosses accused me of being materialistic, and then admitted he had no mortgage because his in laws had bought a house for them.

Even a MOC who came to talk to the branch and was prominent in his anti SOS views talked about his trust fund.
Money is a sign of success and buys the freedom to then do 'good works'.

To my knowledge Lloyds reimburse you this fee, sometime in September of the pre-reg year I think, probably the same for Boots. If you're doing hosp pre-reg the full amount would most likely not be reimbursed.

Yes I was told I'd get at least something back but would probably have to fill out another form as nothing was mentioned on the original.

Don't you realise that it is someone's job to shuffle these forms around. Probably get a huge bonus for doing it.

Probably a fee for filling out the form as well.

The form I was referring to was the standard IR form I receive every year. However, my acct fills it in and submits via net. Actually, done this week for my May08-Apr09 figures. Was an advantage when starting up to pay the tax well over a year later, now I am getting caught with paying tax when not had the income any more. Will still have to pay for May09-Apr10 next year, then finito.
