    Pre reg confusion:/

    Hello guys!
i m new here and thats my first post!thank god(mostly google:P) that i found this site because its soo useful!!!

i m 3rd year pharmacy student in brighton uni, im greek and i want to do my prereg year in brighton but i m completely lost.
today we had a meeting with some pharmacy branches(Day Lewis, Lloyds, superdrug, Waremoss ) but i guess thats not enough. i didnt even know in many of them applications need to be submitted by end of May. Not to mention that i have noo clue on how to write a CV and a cover letter!!
i was thinking of start looking on my own but i dont know how.should i start going door to door and just ask the pharmacist if they can accept a pre reg student or what?
i had a look on the rpsg site and i did find almost 20 approved pharmacies but its definately not enough because all are poppular places and i m sure that a lot of people would wish to work there.

Can you give me some general directions please?
(maybe some sites that mention pharmacies that might want to have a prereg student etc and also sites on how to write a cv?)

    thank you!

Well you kind of have to... the RPSGB (or GPhC) aren't going to help you find a pre-reg place. Presumably you're looking for work in community. The major multiples have a centralised process - application process is online. Independent's are applied to er... independently.

Yeah but if i want to work in an independent pharmacy should i just stick to those that are on the rpsgb site as registered for prereg programmes or start going to every single pharmacy and ask if they accept preregs students?

Can't work out what makes you think you are less worthy of a place, just because there are lots of other applicants.
You need to structure your CV to sound businesslike and capable, but not too stuffy that you make it look like you don't enjoy a laugh.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

If it was me (and I have no experience of this) and I wanted to work in an independent I would:
Get the CV and cover letter sorted.
Approach directly any independents that I fancy working for. (I assume you have some pharmacies in mind)
Use the rpsgb site to add maybe some extras.
Apply for one or two multiples as a backup measure.

I assume that this is allowed. You will be in a better position if you have extra offers to turn down rather than being forced to take something you don't want.

Also might be useful to register with the NPA pre-reg scheme (via pharmalife website). Its a web based application process for community pharmacies which are members of NPA. They then get in touch with you if they are interested.

I suggest you decide where you want to work, find out what they would need to do to have you, costs etc., and sell yourself to them (In the best possible taste, of course) if they are not registered.

I would also apply to every pharmacy registered for pre-reg.

It's time spent/wasted now versus extra nervousness during exams. Your choice as to where you draw the line, really.
    ....just my opinion

    Re: Pre reg confusion:/

    Hello again!!
    its been a long time
I ve already applied for all major chains plus waremoss, paydens daylewis but noone got back to me yet!
the other thing with independent pharmacies is that in the rpsgb are only two in brighton!!i went to both, one told to come after Christmas(!) and the other still unsure whether she wants to do prereg for 2011. i didnt just stick to them though. i ve done a further research but didnt find any pharmacies doing prereg and some others considered independent were incorporated to groups of pharmacies like waremoss, so again the application need to be sent to the head office.
My last option is the nearby smaller towns and villages around brighton but again i dont want to be told the same things they told me in the other pharmacies i went to..
I didnt expect to be that hard to find a place to work in
Any advice? Probably any other sites where i can find info for approved premises other than rpsgb? Anyone who might offer me a job somewhere near brighton maybe, please??? :-))

    Thanks!!

    Hello there,

Are you only interested in doing your pre-reg in Brighton? if you are more flexible on location there will be a better chance of you securing a placement.
