whats required for pre reg year??

Hey everyone I am in the middle of my 4th year and will be starting pre reg with boots in june.

Up until now I haven't really thought about the pre reg year as I have been really focused on getting through uni but now that its so close just wondering what exactly you have know for the pre reg exam?

Do you have to know all the pharmacology we learn at uni or is it a fresh start and that be forgotten?

What knowledge do I have to keep form uni nad what stuff can I forget or is it case of I have to know everything I learnt at uni??

Have you checkd the out rpsgb site ? Its got the final year undergrad bulletin and info on what to expect in the pre-reg yr and samples of the pre-reg paper if you want to see what kind of stuff they ask in the exam.

Thanks for your advice. I have looked at the RPSGB website and have read the trainee workbook but I need a little bit of clarification.

In the trainee workbook it says 'Answers to all questions in the open book paper can be found in the reference sources'. This means I need to be able to find information really quickly in the BNF, MEP and Drug Tariff.

But I am not sure what you need to know for the closed book exam. In the trainee workbook on the RPSGB website it says 'You will NOT need in depth knowledge of all the syllabus topic areas to answer questions in the closed book paper'.

So what knowledge do I need for the closed book paper and which syllabus areas will I need to know? What books will I need to use for the closed book paper?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

When they say you don't need in-depth knowledge I don't think they expect you to go have maniacal knowledge of the pharmacology behind a drug but to have a good understanding of how a drug works.

None - that's why its called a closed paper

My advice is going to be limited because I'm a final year also. Best to ask someone who has recently passed in community pharmacy.

The syllabus is easily available on the RPSGB site. Once you've settled in to your pre-reg though, I guess certain things will crop up which you don't know and will end up being something you will focus upon. Your pre-reg tutor will also guide you (after all you'll be working for 1 year with him/her). As to books most ones people go for are a calculation book like the pharmpress one, and a book on otc conditions. There are other books from the pharmpress site which have mcq's of clinical and pharmacy practice.
In the meantime, enjoy the last 6 months of uni life ! God knows when we we'll next get the chance to get up late, skip lectures and go out every night

I want to start my pre reg year at the latest date possible. Does anyone know when is the last date you can start to sit the september exam?

I just want a break after uni and then start the hard work for pre reg year. Boots have told me to start in june or july how do i go about getting this changed to a later date?

Will they allow me to do this??

To be eligible to sit the september 2011 exam, you need to start between 13 aug and 12 nov at the latest next year. Check the RPSGB final year bulletin.

Will boots let me have a longer break after my uni exams and let me start in november? Have any students out there done this before with boots? Please let me know so I can sort this out with them.

Have you not been given a date on your contract ? It should say on there what date the pre-reg is supposed to start. Best to check this with Boots before the notification forms arrive at your uni in january.
