Re: Stuck with Pre-reg NON Calculation Questions?

Hi johnep, I also wondered about that. If they had always received the LS, they could just have gone to their regular pharmacy. If its a totally new med, then waiting until the morning delivery would be possible. It seems there are too many whats, ifs and buts associated with this question.
    Answer 1 it is!

Re: Stuck with Pre-reg NON Calculation Questions?

    Hi all
during my study I have encountered a question quite a few times involving patient confidentiality and mainatining PMRs. Here is one example:
which of the following applies to PMRs on the dispensary computer?
    1. the pharmacy must notify the information commissioner that they have a PMR system
    2. Patients have immediate right of access to their records
    3. a list of names and addresses of patients stored on the PMR can be sold to a company marketing compliance aids as long as no medical details are given.

Ok-so i think 1 is correct but unfortunately I have not been able to see this in the MEP. Can anyone direct me to more info about notifying the information commissioner?
    2. I vaguely remember from uni that a patient can request their information from the PMR-but they have a fee to pay..? and also the pharmacist has a certain length of time in which to hand over the info?
    3. Absouloutely not-names and addresses is personal information

can someone help me to build on numbers 1 and 2 please?
    Many thanks in advance

Sorry to add another question to the mix-but can a pharmacist object to making a particular supply on the grounds of conscience?
I know its hotly debated-and I also know as an independent contractor to the NHS, you are obliged to dispense their scripts...
But Im struggling to grasp whether a Pharmacist definitely can or definitely cannot object to making a particular supply.
    Many thanks

When PMRs first arrived, we were supposed to obtain the consent of the pt to record their details.
I remember several refused. PMRs at the time were configured to remove the record after the label had been prepared if necessary.

Re: Stuck with Pre-reg NON Calculation Questions?

    Hi all,

I was doing some reading of my MEP and am finding it a bit hard to understand the Non medicinal poisons section. I understand that Part I list substances that can be sold from pharmacies under the supervision of a pharmacist. Part II listed susbtances can be sold by pharmacies + listed sellers of poisons.

Then comes the complicated stuffs : schedules.

    (1) My first question is: Is there any relationship that exists between the TWO "Parts" and the schedules?

Secondly, I had a look at the alphabetical list of non-medicinal poisons. Consider the following drugs from the list:

    Hydrofluoric acid P2

    Chloropicrin P1; S1

    Phosphorus, yellow P1

    (2) What are the differences between P1 and P1 only and P1;S1 ?

I have tried really hard, but I'm finding it a bit confusing. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Stuck with Pre-reg NON Calculation Questions?

Part 1 and 2 essentially are classification lists for the different non-medicinal poisons. The different schedules relate to the poisons rules, i.e. the specific legislation behind the posions act and the regulations that apply. The purpose of the schedules is to apply or relax restrictions on sale and supply. No relationship as such between the two. The S1 or S2 bit means the specific schedule that applies to the sale of that poison. A poison may be listed as P1 S1, P2 S1, P1 S4, P2 S5 etc or just P1 or P2, with none of the restrictions of the schedules.

How do you work out the professional fees, patient charges and No charge for the folowing when prescribed on the same form:

    Climagest tabs 1mg
    Climagest tabs 2mg

Hopefully I will get a reply as I've been trying to figure this out for a long time.

climagest is HRT, so unless they are exempt they will pay for this item. Since you are giving out 2 different strengths, I believe you would receive 4 professional fees and 2 prescription charges. You need to take 2 prescription charges since you have 2 different types of tablets inside. However you would only take 2 charges, since the other Climagest box you are supplying contains the same drugs, just in differing strengths, so you would not charge them again (like when you have Warfarin 1mg and Warfarin 3mg together on the same script, you would just take one charge).
This is what I believe would happen. Please correct me if necessary. Good luck.

Re: Stuck with Pre-reg NON Calculation Questions?

yeah that sounds correct. But consider this situation (assume its for a different patient):

    Logynon tabs

Since it is a contraceptive, the patient is exemp from charges. It is same drug in each tablet, but present in different strength.

It also attracts 3 professional fees, but why would it be 3 No Charge ?

Re: Stuck with Pre-reg NON Calculation Questions?

Logynon has no charge since its COC. However, there are 3 different types of tabs inside, i.e. triphasic, hence 3 professional fees. But since its COC, these 3 different types of tabs have no charge, so 3 no charges. I always get muddled with tariff issues, so again, if any of that theory is not accurate, I would appreciate someone to clarify. cheers
