im as you can probably see mrmeshi.
I am currently in my last year of 6th form and i am studying chemistry, biology and geography as my A2 subjects
I have applied to university for the MPharm course
I have put the university of Nottingham as my Firm (AAB)
and Liverpool John Moores as my insurance (ABB)
I wanted to do medicine but frankly wasnt good enought and so lo and behold the next best thing...pharmacy, which im actually starting to find an interest in.
I want to know more about the future of pharmacy, i.e. the direction it is taking so i can see how exciting it might be once/if i graduate
Hi
I'm a teacher of English in a 6th form college, but became interested (or should I say required to become interested!) in Pharmacy through my elder daughter - who, to my surprise, always enjoyed science. Her Chemistry teacher recommended Pharmacy, but I must say she found the course hard as there was lots of Physics and Maths in it. I turned to the forum for advice when she ran into problems in her pre-reg placement. And now I'm an addict! She's moved to hospital now - Yay! - and is much happier, but she says they are terribly understaffed.
There are 5 of us and we all love music - I'm going to see The Black Keys at Manchester Academy on 21st May, and I may go to The Green Man Festival again this August as Pentangle are re-forming! PM me if you are going! I saw Robert Plant there last summer, but it was all a bit of a mudfest. I usually listen to Hendrix or the Stones as I drive to work, letting them do my rebellion against "the man" for me! Cowardly - but I've gotta pay the bills. Has anyone seen "Control" - Ian Curtis film? that and "One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest" can be seen as dark, if cliched, shortcuts to introducing myself! Rock on!
Hello, I'm David.
Although I seem to have views on everything at the moment, it's just because that, (a) as a locum, I've been a bit picky and had a load of free time to post, and /or (b) the last two shops I've worked in haven't been particularly busy, and (in the absence of ETP's) have this awfully useful internet access.
Now that I have an avatar that reflects my speed of movement much more than my natural good looks, I felt I should do some self-disclosure! What to put in - what to leave out - hmmm
I registered 20th August 1973, which allowed Tony to correctly guestimate my age at 57. I qualified at Liverpool Poly, and did my pre-reg for Boots in the Thames Valley. I went to Boots because I got very interested in computers at the poly. Really I should say computer, because there was only one. It was housed in its own suite, aircon, and had a huge total memory of 7 kilobytes. Programs were input on paper tape, and it had a loudspeaker so you could acually hear your program running. Communication was by electric typewriter: no screens then. Its amazing what you can do with 7k, actually, but that's another story.
In those days there was no pre-reg exam, of course. Boots employed me for an unofficial three years "gentleman's agreement" which meant that in return for supervising my pre-reg I was expected to go on "relief" i.e. locum for a couple of years.
I did my best for them until they broke a promise to me, which I reckoned released me from the agreement, and I went to work for a private pharmacist in Liverpool. Eventually I went into partnership with him - I was very much the junior, and when we sold up I had enough to be unexpectedly generous to my ex-wife, and to buy a small pharmacy business for myself.
Ten years later I had had enough really. It wasn't much to do with pharmacy, more with my mother becoming less and less able to cope with the world, and having to organise 24 hour care for her. It gave me a different view of what was important to me. Eventually I heard myself saying "the good thing about pharmacy is that you can delegate all your work and listen to radio 4 all day" and I realised I would have to move on. I sold, and began to develop a second career outside pharmacy that I had got interested in through some voluntary work.
I suspect that if I still ran my own business I wouldn't have time to delegate, let alone listen to the radio, but there we are.
Since then I have done locums three or four days a week, and my other job a couple of days a week, remarried, moved area, and taken up meditation and Tai Chi! And, at the moment, I can say that I don't really miss radio 4, so that's good, isn't it.![]()
