Watch out for qd. It is also quaque die - which means once a day to some prescribers depending on where they qualified. Usually the what has been prescribed tells you.... Digoxin 125mcg Tablets i qd would not be four times a day. I'm told qd is commonly used in the USA for once daily. These abbreviations are gradually dying out on prescriptions but the dosage codes used to generate them are in the main, still based on them. There used to be a great listing of them in the old Pharmaceutical Handbook. |

Hello everyone! I'm a new member so thought I'd introduce myself. I studied at De Montfort Univerity, Leicester. I've just qualified in July 2007 and have started off locuming just to get a taste of the different pharmacy environments. It is going OK for me so far but am getting bored of locuming so want to settle in one shop and see how that is like. Any suggestions on best company is appreciated! Thanks for this site, it looks very useful. Regards, Parween. |

Thought I'd introduce myself finally as I am new to this forum. Unsure how I came upon it, but it's great! As some of you can probably tell from my spelling, I am from the US. My wife and I are both pharmacists and have two boys. We live in Denver, Colorado. I graduated with a Pharm.D. and then went on to do a post-doc residency in primary care pharmacy and became board certified. I have been working in clinical pharmacy (the primary care setting) for 6 years now. I actually like my job as it is non-dispensing and has lots of autonomy. Reading some posts reminds me of many conversations pharmacists here have had regarding their careers. Some of the things talked about have already gone through growing pains here and have remorphed the profession. We plan to move to Europe in the near future. Although England is not the first choice, it may be an option in the future (my wife is an EU national). I'm a little concerned though about prospects. Getting registered is one thing, but I would be relying on my experience to pursue a clinical position. I hope it works out. This forum does shed light on certain things and I will certainly add to the discussions based on my experience here.

Hello everyone. Just registered on here. Been qualified for two and a half years. Did locum work since I qualified but have just taken a jump into the world of management (due to start in Feb- wish me luck). Browsed some of the forums and it's nice to know I'm not on my own in the way I think/feel. Hope to get to know you all in the future. Oh.. anyone want some locum work around East Lancs area!! Thought I might as well ask whilst here |

One of the reasons why I sometimes arrived abraded and lacerated when doing locums in the area in the early 1980s. |

When at school we were told that Lancashire was centre of cotton industry because of the amount of rain. In my innocence I thought it was to do with the moist air. Only recently with viewing the history progs have I realised it was the waterwheel which provided power for the looms and also the canals which revolutionised transport. Just shows how ignorant us southerners are about the north. I have been to the lakes and we are off to York in March and that is about it. Regret more familiar with Tenerife than Manchester. johnep |

I was brought up in Essex, studied in the NE, lived for a while in the North West then returned to Essex. And I could go back to the NW any time. One of my sons went to a NW Uni, now my granddaughter's at one. He had a very good time. Still goes back there to meet old friends. Enjoy York, and remember if King Harold (the one who lost at Hastings) hadn't been such a brilliant and motivational general, it would probably be the capital of another country now! |
