    Re: Introduce Yourself !!!

I'm a recently qualified pharmacist, well since this monday anyway.
Just finished my pre-reg year in hospital and industry and currently looking into locuming, although I'm a bit apprehensive about community due to my lack of experience. Think I might look for some hospital locum work

    Re: Introduce Yourself !!!

My name is James, I'm a 2nd year undergraduate pharmacist studying at University of Portsmouth.

Currently my average for the first 2 years is 50% = 2.2 class

It's going to be hard to push that up to a 2.1 but I will try.

I read over here a thread, that the class of Degree is not important unless your trying to get into the Industry, get a PhD or two people are competing for the same job and they are both equal. So thats a relief

I didn't apply for a summer placement this year, I will try next year because I know it really helps to get a place for pre-reg.

After I become a pharmacist, I want to go into community pharmacy.

I've always had this dream of running my own community pharmacy along with my sister (who will be studying pharmacy in a couple of years)

How difficult is that to set up and become succesful ?

    Re: Introduce Yourself !!!

    Hello All,

Why didn't i make a post in this thread last year? Hmmmm, oh well! Here's my little introduction.

I am a current MPharm student going into my third year at liverpool john moores uni. I am just falling short of a first, so hopefully i can scrape back the marks this year and get that elusive 70%. Don't wanna get a Viva if i can help it!

I want to do my prereg in a big hospital, or split it 50:50 with industry. We'll see how it goes. After that i want to locum for a year or two, firstly to free up some time to allow me to get involved in pharmacy leadership, the BPSA and the new professional body (if it works out properly), and secondly to save up some money to fund me through my PhD. Which i want to do in Pharmaceutics - though i will have to narrow that down before i start applying.

Heys James, good to see another student on here. You're class of degree won't affect you too much really, as far as i can see from my friends who are doing prereg and qualified. You only need a 2.1 to get into industry - its a complete myth that you need a 1st to get into industry. Most interviews simply come down to how you are as a person and how you carry yourself in conversations... and also make sure you don't blab delicate information.

Secondly, there are paths out there to help you set up your own community pharmacies. Yes the market is getting harder, what with supermarkets cashing in on pharmacy and polyclinics on the horizon, but there are always people who will use independents. UniChem do a scheme to help pharmacists set up independent pharmacies, by helping them with funding and stocking, etc.

I cannot remember the exact details but there is a talk about it every year at the BPSA's Annual Conference - which is in Liverpool this year (hurrrar!). The talk is given by one of the chairpersons from UniChem and you're free to talk to him afterwards and get contact details, its well worth you going.

    Hi,

I'm a community pharmacist, have been qualified now for 3 years. I'm currently on maternity leave, but due to go back to work in October. Just thought I'd come along and introduce myself.

    Exclamation Re: Introduce Yourself !!!

    Hi,
I'm an undergraduate pharmacy student but I'm from Egypt not UK.
I don't really mean to be "The intruder" or to "parasitize"..I only joined your website so I can know more about your educational systems and how they differ from ours.Besides learning many things from senior pharmacists here.
And to have some fun as well
I also have a british friend who is very nice.
    Thnx...
