Default Leaving Pharmacy

Dear All

I have worked in pharmacy for the past 16 years and for the last 2 have become totally fed up with the whole thing!!
I have no intention of doing CPD, electronics transfer of scripts (a disaster i feel!!) or any form of MUR.
I totally agree with all of your moans and groans and when i leave at the end of the year i will certainly not miss it!!
No more rude patients or dealing with addicts or saturday morning emergency supplies!
I have just started courses in both plumbing and electrical installation and hope to obtain my City and Guilds in both by the end of the year with a view to obtaining work in both trades in the new year.
Is this just me feeling fed up like this or are a lot of people thinking about new careers!! (600 left the register this year!!).
I welcome your thoughts and comments!!

Thumbs up Hi drh785

I wish you GOOD LUCK in your new career field. I can completely understand your reasons for re-training, only wish I knew what else I could get both money and real enjoyment from!
The country you work in doesnt matter either, as the big issue seems to be lack of governmental money. However that is magnified chronically when working for the multiples who want the last ounce of profit from each store.
Let us know how your studies develop, and if you find the plumbing/electrical industry a more satisfying path.

Well I say good luck to you. I personally would like to change my job, but feel too old to re-train for anything else. All I can add is that my husband is a builder, and his skills seem to be much more useful then mine! He also seems a lot happier in his choice of work then I am.

There are always letters in the PJ comparing pharmacists rates of pay to that of plummers etc, as if skilled trades people are somehow lesser then us. I have never believed this myself, and feel that most people value a plummers work a lot more then ours.

Let us know how you get on and good luck.

I just have to add one thing, as I have been reading Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" all weekend, and my mind is full of conspiracy theories, hidden codes etc - is this a joke?

Thumbs up leaving Pharmacy

Dear DHR785
good luck with the plumbing I hope your olfactory lobes are well equipped to cope with smelly toilets and sinks ...all jobs have there down side but foul smells will always be a downner for me ! Good luck anyway and please let us know how you get on.

It takes a lot of guts to re-train and leave what you have been doing for 16 years behind...I wish I had the guts, been doing this for 15 years...I'm on the wrong side of 35 at 37.75years old and all I know is Pharmacy ..I think i'll be useless at anything else

Good luck to you man!

I wish I could afford to take time off to retrain.

Well, there's always my novels. I keep writing them but no bugger will publish them! Perhaps I should take that as a sign!

I'm sorry that it's got to the point where people are leaving the profession in droves and a lot of the rest are jealous!

Will let you know when I've got my e-book site up and running. I'm sure I can sort out a pharmacist discount!

Default Linnear's Books

Linnear

What are they about, and how many have you done? You write so many letters to the PJ I thought you'd have run out of ink by now!

I've written a sci-fi one and a bio-terrorism thriller and at the mo I'm working on a supernatural thriller.

Helps to take my mind off work!
