Nvq level 3 question about act.

Does anyone know, where i can fnd out if an act can dispense prescriptions while the responsible pharmacist is out? or does it depend on the company sops? i have tried looking on the npa website, gphc website, psnc website, cpw website and generally googleing it! i even phoned the npa but they wouldnt tell me as i am registered on the course. i am really starting to pull my hair out now, as i am stuck as to where to find the information. please could someone help?

    Hey Vixen,
Not sure if these will be of any help. Personally I don't know the answer 100% but I wouldnt have thought there would be an issue dispensing prescriptions whilst the responsible pharmacist is not present so long as they are not released etc. Unless you mean checking in which case I would have thought they def need to be present. Even with the new regs nothing can leave the pharmacy (except GSL items) without pharmacist being present so I assume the rules regards P and POM items still stand regardless of what position you hold whilst a pharmacist is not present (unless you were a pharmacist). Ill keep looking to see if there is anything specific to answer your question. Best of luck Krisi x

Thankyou so much. i have spoken to a few people and they said that as long as the prescription had been clinically and pharmaceutically checked then it could be accuracy checked as long as it is in line with the company sops, but i can find no evidence of this.

Below is how we operate - I cannot confirm that it is absolutely right though!
The RP can, at their discretion, be responsible for up to 2 hours when they are contactable, but not necessarily on the premises. If this is the case, then our SOP for dispensing when the Pharmacist is not present, comes into play - basically we can dispense, and providing it has been clinically checked, the ACT can accuracy check, but under no circumstances can anything be given out (to the public or delivery driver)
