CPD tends to be about setting objectives and identifying gaps in your knowledge. Think about where you are now and what you want to achieve etc. CPD involves developing a learning plan to identify specific gaps in your knowledge which can help with your job role, evidence gathering and appraisals. You set specific targets and evaluate how fully you have met your training needs or if you have identified any further gaps in your knowledge. CPD also tends to be time specific whereby you set yourself deadlines. It can be based on an actual activity or background reading and can start or end at any point in the learning process (reflection, planning, action, evaluation)
Kolbs is more about reflecting on actual experiences rather than planning learning (ie reflective learning after the event). You would think about a recent activity such as a disagreement with a member of staff or making and an extemp and consider why it happened, what you learnt, how other people interpret the situation and what you would do differently next time. Basically Kolbs always starts with action and ends with evaluation.
