Who is paying for your course?
Have you given your manager any indication you may wish to leave your current employment upon completion of the course?
Is your current contract a permanent one?
Can a suitably qualified locum pharmacist sign off your future buttercups units, given your manager will be on maternity leave?

Hi, the company is paying for my course...i have never given any indication that i wish to leave, quite the opposite in fact! the locum who will be covering is able to oversee our pre-reg so im sure he could (and would if asked) oversee my training too but i dont think hes even been approached about it.

Would you be able to approach your manager about the possibility of you continuing your course in her absence, with your locum taking responsibility for signing off your work?
You're clearly enthusiastic about finishing your course and have a commitment to the company as well. Perhaps your manager is worried about the possibility you may not be there when she gets back from her maternity leave. That can only be good, as she obviously doesn't want to lose you.
You might try just having a wee word with her to reassure her that you fully intend to be there for her when she returns to work from her maternity leave, but at the same time you do not want to lose the momentum you have built within yourself in order that you may finish your buttercups course.
Your manager is a pharmacist, and has studied hard towards her own degree. I am sure she will understand your motive, as she has been in a similar situation herself with exams.
Ask her to talk to the locum who is covering her maternity leave. If he agrees to oversee your course (if buttercups are ok with that), then I'm sure you will be fine.
Years ago, when I did my pre-reg year, my tutor fell ill and I completed the year under a replacement tutor, and passed.
    It can be done!

Up until november i had been ahead with my units and then all of a sudden my manager tells me im not allowed to send any more units because it looks "suspicious" that im working through them so fast...i didnt argue, it was pointless. Now ive been told after talking to the superintendant she is going to contact buttercups to get an extension on my course as she is due to go on maternity leave early next year and she wants me to wait until she returns to resume my course. I could have had it finished way before she leaves...but obviously now there is nothing i can do. I have asked if there is a problem either professionally or personally and she says no...but i think i am being treated very unfairly. there are other issues but i would be here all night..... i just wondered what other people think of this?...
Have you contacted Buttercups for advice? I suspect you may need to talk to your training team at Head Office for advice but if we can help as an organisation then we will.
