how do i become a pharmacy technician?
I dont have any previous pharmacy experience although I do have a degree in Biomedical Science. I would love to be a pharmacy technician in a hospital? I just dont how to go about it...would it be totally stupid of me to phone up the pharmacy at my local hospital and ak if they have any trainee positions?

Not at all, however may not be many vacancies in these days of financial stringency. It would only likely be minimum wage to start. Perhap you could tell us why you did a degree in Biomedical Science and what had you hoped for?

Re: how do i become a pharmacy technician?
Hi thanks for your reply
I studied biomed because, well, I always loved biology and chemistry and learning about diseases, treatments etc. I loved studying the degree but I realised I dont want to be stuck in a lab for the rest of my career.
Plus its really hard to find a lab that will take you on as a trainee. I stayed in hospital a few months ago and had to visit the pharmacy regularly. They were always really busy but the hussle and bussle of it just appeals to me you know. I also like the idea of further studying.
Its because they were always so busy that I am reluctant to phone up- I dont want to get on any ones nerves! I felt reluctant to go even as a patient! I've checked NHS jobs and Jobcentre plus and there doesnt seem to be any vacancies being advertised but think im going to phone up now- im pretty much desperate at this point.

Oh dear, you have suffered from bad or no advice. Biology and Chemistry would have got you into Uni to study pharmacy.
Regret your story all too common. Students want to study subjects they like but are given none or bad advice re what course they should study to get a job at the end. All part of politicians just trying to keep youngsters off the unemployment register.
Now the chickens are coming home to roost. In other countries disaffected graduates could cause a revolution. With a more volatile ethic mix we may experience the riots seen in other countries.
Unemployed graduates who feel they have studied 3-4 years and find they are on the scrapheap already, more ready to take direct action than any other group. Beginning to feel like a replay of the 30s. We all know how they ended.
