Hi I am trying to explain how the liver converts amino acids to produce urea and cant !!
Liver receives amino acids from the intestine (ie diet) and muscles. These are then degraded to ammonia by processes called transamination and oxidative deamination. Will leave you to figure out what these mean. Anyway the ammonia gets converted to urea with the addition of CO2 and other biochemical steps, which is then ready to be sent off to the kidneys for excretion. In severe liver disease, these processes pretty much fail.
